Project New Life   NH Recovery -- Putting New Hampshire to Work

Manchester NH

The New Life Summer Youth Employment Program is a dynamic, hands-on opportunity for eligible in-school, just graduating or out-of-school Manchester young adults, to spend their summer outside of their comfort zone participating in New Hampshire’s most creative youth training programs.

For 9 weeks in summer, Manchester’s eligible young adults will be actively engaged in a 5-phase program that provides:

  • Phase 1 – One Week: Communication, trust, leadership and team-building
  • Phase 2 – One Week: Employability, career success and job readiness skills
  • Phase 3 – One Week: Technology based remedial academics in a unique science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) program teaching the basics of computer-aided CNC machine operations, automation and robotics
  • Phase 4 – One Week: Independent Living Skills which includes CPR and First Aid certification, finance and budgeting, nutrition and cooking, combined with community service and volunteering.
  • Phase 5: Work Experience: 5-weeks of work experience at employer work sites.

Over the period of the nine weeks, each participant will receive $1,957.50 in wages, work readiness and life skills to position them for success in the future, and 270 hours of valuable experiential education. Selected participants will be challenged to learn and live differently, establishing high standards for learning, building the foundation for a “new life”.

For participating young adults, this program targets revitalizing their belief in their own abilities to succeed and stimulates their interest in applying career success skills in their daily life while creating for them an interest in STEM careers and studies.

The New Life training model responds to the diverse needs of at promise youth and the objectives sought by the President and Congress in the Workforce Investment Act stimulus funding. Project New Life creates a model that can be applied throughout New Hampshire and the Manchester based project enables the state community to evaluate this dynamic new youth program.
