The mission of the Making’ It Happen Coalition is to create a coordinated community response among individuals, organizations, businesses and communities to promote positive behaviors that measurably improve the health and well being of our youth, with a focus on alcohol, tobacco and o ther drug prevention. Since 1997, Makin’ It Happen Coalition has accomplished its efforts through continued engagement of a wide array of community stakeholders on behalf of youth and adults in the Greater Manchester Area.
Over the past 10 years, the Coalition has successfully engaged partners in both environmental and programmatic interventions that have lead to a strong decrease in reported use of marijuana, tobacco, alcohol and other drugs, as well as consistent increases in both perception of risk and perception of disapproval among students in the Manchester School District. The Coalition has successfully implemented a variety of direct services that have impacted the young people of Manchester. The Manchester Youth Leadership Program (MYLP) has been and continues to be one the coalition’s most successful program in which dozens of youth each year are enrolled into a year long leadership and development program. In addition to MYLP, the Coalition also facilitates the City’s only youth lead coalition, YouthNET. YouthNET is a coalition of young people who work to improve Greater Manchester through civic engagement, peer mentoring, and volunteer activities.
